Do Date is made by a small independent developer, and every email is read by the person who built the app. It helps to include your device (which iPhone or iPad), its iOS or iPadOS version, and what you were doing when the problem happened. The app sends no diagnostics of its own, so what you describe is all there is to go on.

Please don't send your Notion token or password. Nothing here ever needs them.

What Do Date is

Do Date is an iPhone and iPad app for the tasks you already keep in a Notion database. Notion stays the source of truth: every change you make in the app is written back to Notion, and changes made in Notion show up in the app. A copy is kept on your device so the app keeps working without a signal, and edits made offline are sent once you're back online.

You need a Notion account and a database of tasks. The app works with your own property names, and a short setup step matches them up.

Getting started

1Sign in with Notion

Open the app, tap Get Started, then Sign in with Notion. On Notion's screen, choose your Tasks database and your Projects database, if you have one. Do Date can only see the pages you pick here.

2Match up your properties

Tap Set Up Tasks Database. Do Date guesses which of your properties is the due date, the status and so on. Check the guesses, tick which status options count as “done”, and tap Validate & Save. The app runs a live test against your database before it saves anything.

3That's it

Your tasks appear under Today, Booked In, Due and Browse. You can come back to this at any time from Settings → Change Database or Mapping….

If you'd rather use your own Notion integration, Settings also has Advanced: connect with your own integration token. Create an internal integration at notion.so/my-integrations with Read, Update and Insert content access, then connect it to your Tasks and Projects databases from each database's ••• → Connections menu.

On iPad and iPhone Duo

Do Date works in portrait and landscape. On a wide screen it changes layout to suit it.

Common questions

Sign in took me to my Notion home page instead of back to the app

This happens when you weren't already logged in to Notion: Notion's login page sometimes drops the step that returns you to Do Date. Tap Sign in with Notion again. You're logged in now, so the second attempt goes straight through. The app shows a hint when it spots this.

My database isn't in the list

Do Date can only see databases you shared with it. Two Notion behaviours catch people out:

To share another database after signing in, open it in Notion and add Do Date from its ••• → Connections menu.

Tasks show up, but not their project names

Your Projects database needs sharing too. Sharing Tasks doesn't automatically share the databases it links to. Share Projects (and any other linked database, such as Clients) the same way.

I can't tick tasks off

Completing a task sets your status property to a “done” option, so the app needs to know which option that is. Go to Settings → Change Database or Mapping… and make sure a status property is chosen and at least one option is ticked as done. The app hides the checkbox rather than accept a tick it can't save.

One setup isn't supported: a database that tracks completion with a plain checkbox property. A Status property that displays as a checkbox is different, and works normally.

Tasks I add in the app turn up unassigned in Notion

Check Settings → New tasks assigned to. If it says Not set, open the mapping screen, pick your assignee property and choose yourself under “I am”. Notion shows an unassigned task created by an app as belonging to that app's connection.

Reminders aren't arriving

Tasks with no time notify at the time you choose in Settings (9:00 AM unless you change it). Tasks with a time notify at that time.

A change I made in Notion isn't showing yet

Pull down on any list to sync straight away. The app also syncs when you open it, and in the background when iOS allows.

Why is “Next week” a Monday, but “+1 week” isn't?

This is deliberate. Moving work you've booked in to “next week” puts it on the coming Monday, the natural start of a fresh week. Pushing a deadline “+1 week” adds exactly seven days, so a Friday deadline never moves earlier. Swipes only ever move the booked-in date, never the deadline.
